My review:

*** I volunteered to read an advance reviewer copy of this book. ***

This was heartwarming and romantic continuation of the mystic-centric collection of novellas.  Each novella tied back to the prior release (Magic Spark: Enchanted, Book One) but can also be read as stand-alone.  (Which is most intriguing considering “Destiny’s Dark Light” is a pick-up right where it left off in the previous installment.  Kudos to the author for the amazing recap to bring the reader up to speed without missing a single plotline.)  There is a magic; there is romance; there is absolutely everything right in this compilation.

Below is the rating I give to each story and the average makes up the status of “my rating” for the entire compilation.

  • How to Capture Your Match ~ Wendy Sparrow (4.0)
  • Destiny’s Dark Light, Part Two ~ Sara Dobie Bauer (4.5)
  • This Hollow Heart ~ Em Shotwell (4.0)

“When Demigods Court Death” by Wendy Sparrow:
As the demigod of fertility, Aster Slone has a thriving doctor’s practice. In fact, the incidence of triplets has made it too thriving. He needs more time with his neighbor the demigoddess of death to dampen his powers. Chandra Linton being gorgeous and sweet makes his task less of a hardship. Hitting the zenith of heretofore-unknown powers without enough exposure to her match is killing Chandra. Accepting all that her crazy, but hot neighbor says is her destiny…well, it muddles her convictions, but her real concern is: does Aster want Chandra because she’s the woman he desires or because she’s Death?

“These Roots Run Deep” by Em Shotwell:
Spitfire, New Orleans weather girl, Cheyanne Murphey has everything, and that is exactly how she likes it. When she discovers evidence of her fiancé’s philandering, she refuses to let her perfectly cultivated image fall to pieces. Cheyanne has worked too hard, dragging herself up from the trailer park into New Orleans’ society, to give in without a fight…even if that means trading a year of her life in exchange for a love incantation from her ancestor’s spell book.
A skyclad, moonlit dance, a mysterious potion, and magic gone awry leave Cheyanne with a very peculiar life lesson: love can take on many forms, so be careful what you wish for.

“Destiny’s Dark Light — Part One” by Sara Dobie Bauer:
In modern day Charleston, lonely white witch Cyan Burroughs has waited her whole life to lead the battle against dark witches and eventually meet the man she is fated to love. A tragic trolley accident brings Liam Cody into her life. He is her destiny, but he’s also in love with someone else. Now, Cyan and her magic family must find the dark witch who caused the accident while Cyan fights her feelings for Liam—a charming Irishman with secrets of his own.

My review:

*** I volunteered to read an advance reviewer copy of this book. ***

This was an utterly enchanting mystic-centric collection of novellas, so I find the title aptly appropriate. (I am sure the editors and publishing-house were anxiously awaiting my approval.  HA)  And although novella in length, these stories pack a punch in tale.  There is a something to be found for everyone’s personal taste in magic.

Below is the rating I give to each story and the average makes up the status of “my rating” for the entire compilation.

  • When Demigods Court Death ~ Wendy Sparrow (4.0)
  • These Roots Run Deep ~ Em Shotwell (3.5)

My review:

** I voluntarily reviewed this advance reader copy. **

I had the wonderful opportunity to read and review this boxset in combination with its release.  I laughed, I gasped, I yearned, and most of all I fell for each and every one of these books.  (Some more than others but that is more about me and my preferred elements in a story more so than any issue with the plot.)  There were a few new authors to me and a couple authors and books that were already on my “to be read” compilation and I enjoyed being able to delve into each and every one of these created fantasy and paranormal worlds.

Below I have listed the books individually with their specific rating and the overall rating of the entire boxset is an average of those numbers.

  • Your Lycan or Mine? ~ Michele Bardsley  (4.0)
  • Chasing Magic ~ Gena D. Lutz  (4.0)
  • VIKTOR: Heart of Her King ~ Julia Mills  (4.0)

Dark Tide, by Stella Marie Alden and also by Chantel Seabrook

Dark Tide (Mated by Magic, #3)

There’s a dangerous magic brewing in the South Pacific, and Maya O’Connor is certain it involves the handsome fire witch renting out her family’s private island. He’s dark, brooding, and sexy as sin. With a single touch, she knows he’s her perfect match.

Having suffered more than his fair share of heartbreak, Josh Fialko seems determined to destroy himself and everyone close to him. A fatal love match left him shattered beyond repair. Now, he wants nothing to do with mating, especially not with the feisty little water witch who’s intent on stealing his heart.

My review:

** ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. **

Oh, Josh…  Although Jack had my heart in “Dark Vortex” you were in my peripheral.  And you intrigued me more in “Dark Tremor” so much so I was anxiously awaiting “Dark Tide” with a school-girl giddiness that I almost annoyed myself.  Yet you did not disappoint.  Your self-discovery throughout this story heated my heart and warmed my being.  Fire witch, indeed.  (All the Mated by Magic books are stand-alone novels but the main male characters in this series are brothers; thus the familiarity with characters from prior releases.)  If you like magic and fabulous banter between the romantic leads, this is one you need to read.  Not would enjoy reading; need to read.  Perfectly cast with an independent and defiant female to balance the strong and bullish male.  And if you appreciate the rebellious, tortured, self-loathing type…Josh Fialko is the male you need to encounter.  Steamy!  And that’s before fire meets water.

Dark Tremor, by Stella Marie Alden also by Chantel Seabrook

Dark Tremor

Terra’s survival depends on avoiding other witches. That includes hot sexy flame-throwing males. When her world shifts beneath her, literally, she’s forced into the arms of a man who ignites a lust that could destroy them both. She’s kept her distance, but every time she turns, he’s there. And now her enemies know where she is and they’ll stop at nothing to reclaim her and the potent dark power she hides.

Tormented by one fatal night, Jace Fialko wants nothing to do with finding a mate. He’s trouble for anyone, especially the stubborn, sinfully tempting little witch harboring dangerous secrets of her own.

My review:

** A free copy of the book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. **

An adrenaline and action-packed tale.  The story starts out at a breakneck pace and keeps that level of insanity until the end.  Fabulous!  You cannot help but fall for these characters – a strong and independent female; a rebellious and carefree male – as they are both broken and have such similar haunts in their past.  One genuinely yearns for them to be together and to heal each other’s pain.  The displays of the “earth” magic were stunning and spectacular and the solstice-mating antagonism between the characters was exhilaratingly beautiful, humorous, and heart-wrenching.  And when the fireworks ignite…just…WOW!
