FaeTAL, by Becca Moree

FaeTAL (FaeTAL Series, #2)

The Carnival of Darkness isn’t your average amusement show. It’s a sick and twisted world where men are predators and women are the prey.

Abi, one of these women, has one goal. One all-consuming need. All that she wants is to escape from the life that she is being forced to lead. She isn’t looking for love or even lust, she just wants her life back. No matter how lacking that life had been.

Christopher is the King of the Fae, whether he likes it or not. When he runs into Abi while out on patrol his natural instinct is to protect her from any and all harm, even though women haven’t been on his radar for centuries. He simply wants to be free from his burden and this promise to lead his people.

When the two come together in an unexpected and explosive night both of their lives will change forever…but will either get the freedom they are searching for?

My review:

I had to read this twice before reviewing.  I wanted to be sure I had not missed a single, perverted, macabre, freaky, moment of the nightmare inside the Carnival.  (Additionally, I got to read a fabulous supernatural story twice in one week.  Yay me!!)  This tale picks up immediate where the “Carnival of Darkness” novella finishes, so although you should read it to fully embrace the happenings, it is not a requirement to fully enjoy the horrors on the pages.  This is a seriously dark and haunting depiction of an otherworldly fascination to condescend humans.  I’m hooked on this series!

My review:

** I voluntarily reviewed this advance reader copy. **

I had the wonderful opportunity to read and review this boxset in combination with its release.  I laughed, I gasped, I yearned, and most of all I fell for each and every one of these books.  (Some more than others but that is more about me and my preferred elements in a story more so than any issue with the plot.)  There were a few new authors to me and a couple authors and books that were already on my “to be read” compilation and I enjoyed being able to delve into each and every one of these created fantasy and paranormal worlds.

Below I have listed the books individually with their specific rating and the overall rating of the entire boxset is an average of those numbers.

  • Your Lycan or Mine? ~ Michele Bardsley  (4.0)
  • Chasing Magic ~ Gena D. Lutz  (4.0)
  • VIKTOR: Heart of Her King ~ Julia Mills  (4.0)
  • Memory’s Kiss ~ Sharon Kay  (4.0)
  • Under Her Skin ~ Margo Bond Collins  (4.0)
  • Rise of the Fallen ~ Donya Lynne  (4.5)
  • Fall Into Darkness ~ Valerie Twombly  (4.5)
  • Nights Angel ~ Lisa Kessler  (4.0)
  • A Vhampier’s Forbidden Wolf ~ P.T. Macias  (3.5)
  • Eternal Service ~ Regina Morris  (4.5)

Carnival of Darkness, by Becca Moree

Carnival of Darkness (FaeTAL Series)

Brett sold his soul to the devil. Only hell isn’t a fiery pit in the bowels of the earth. Hell is the Carnival of Darkness where the freak shows are real, the screams never end, and the girl of his dreams has become a part of his nightmare.

Charlee has been kidnapped by the freaks that run The Carnival of Darkness. If that weren’t bad enough, she’s harboring a secret that will put her life in even more danger should her captors find out. Now, she has a decision to make – keep her head down and wait on someone to save her, or fight to escape and get back to the ones she left behind.

Brett wants to trust Charlee with the reason he is working at the carnival, but she still has reservations about his intentions. Charlee doesn’t trust anyone, but Brett may be her only hope.

My review:

** ARC received by the author in exchange for an honest review. **

This is a debut release and what an impact this novella has made on me!  If you do not like carnivals, do not read this story as it will feed on every fear and dislike you have as they relate to the goings on inside those tents.  I am the person who watches horror movies with a smile on her face.  And my, oh my, did I smile while I read this!  But be advised to consider this a creepy carnival of horrors.  As in actual terrors, blood, and gore.  As dark as this telling is, and it gets evilly dark, there is a thread of hope that winds itself throughout.  This does end with a cliffhanger; however, I fully enjoyed it and cannot wait to embrace the rest of the series!
