My review:

** I volunteered to read an advance review copy of “Lust Abroad” by Whitley Cox. **

This was a tremendously “lighter” story than what I am accustomed to reading from this author.  This read will fit in wonderfully with the Tropical Tryst collection.  It was more than the “sexy, passionate, and enticing” tale the anthology claims and the tropical setting will most assuredly appease your inner adventurist.  This was pure unadulterated fun, and although the realism of the plot stretched itself really thin on occasion, it was a journey I was glad to embark upon.

Emma must find a way to come to terms with James’ demands or risk ruining their first holiday as husband and wife.

Much like the disclaimer in the beginning of the book, this story is Hot.  And Filthy.  And, oh, so delicious.  It was great fun revisiting this couple.  (Although this can be read as a standalone, it is suggested to read Parts 1 and 2 of “Sex, Heat and Hunger” in The Dark and Damaged Hearts Series for a full understanding of the highlighted coupling.)

The idea of a honeymoon story was sheer brilliance by the author not only to continue their journey but to show how far “James” has come in his progression of being more open with “Emma”.  The sex scenes were blistering and I found myself wishing I could dive into the ocean to cool off.  Instead I drank an entire gallon of iced tea I had made earlier in the day in an effort to keep myself hydrated.  Yes…it is that scorching.  And so completely worth it.

It is no secret that I enjoy reading Robin Stone’s erotica so I was beyond excited to delve into a story based solely around a M/M relationship even though I am not a fan of “second chance” romance.  I was not disappointed.  This tale was able to be both genuinely sweet and feverishly hot.  The tender romance was endearing and the erotica oh-so-enticing.  This novella was a perfect quick read that hit all the right spots exactly when I needed them most; and without realizing my yearning.

Possession, by Brandy Ayers

Possession (Blue Line, #2)

One look and he fell…

Officer Bryan Coy was known as the Middleburg playboy. There wasn’t a night of the week that you didn’t find him at the Blue Line Bar picking up buckle bunnies. But then he gets assigned what most cops consider the crap detail. Set up a speed trap outside the home of a woman that complains nonstop about speeders in her neighborhood. Hand out tickets. Shut the lady up. Easy.

Then he sees her, running from her house to grab something out of the car. But that brief glimpse changes something inside Officer Coy. Now he can’t get her out of his head… or his heart. If only she’d give him a chance.

But he’d need to work for it…

Lexis Johannes has centered her whole world around her little boy. Dating, men, sex are a thing of the past. She’s happy with her life. But the smooth talking cop that keeps popping up at her curb is making her second guess everything. Long after the reckless drivers had all slowed down, Officer Coy is still there, watching out for them.

Letting him in terrifies her. But so does letting him slip away. Can she find room in her world for the larger than life police officer?

The drugs and crime are piling up in Middleburg, but Coy won’t let it touch what belongs to him. Despite his need to possess Lexis and protect her and Ash, trouble finds its way next door.

This clearly should NOT have been read while at the office but I will re-read this at least another two times I enjoyed it that much.  The flirting was mature and the sass from both characters highlighted this story.  Another wonderful quick erotic tale when you only have a short amount of time to read.

Legendary, by Laura Harvey

Legendary (Triskaidekaphilia, #1)

Urban legends. We’ve all heard them, we’ve all told them. They fill the role that fairy tales once held—morality tales meant to frighten us into sticking with the herd, obeying society’s rules, and not taking any chances. In most urban legends, once someone transgresses, we know things won’t end well for them.

But what if the bright spark of romance also common to these stories refuses to be snuffed out? What if it bursts into a love that fights for its chance to burn? Can love triumph over evil? Forgive any trespass? Heal any wound?

Set off into a dark wood with a young love that won’t go quietly into the night. Bait a vengeful ghost to find family, and love. Ride along with a hitchhiker who won’t vanish for long. Learn to love a touch that is not human. Find passion beneath the scars. Dive into five tales that speak to the heart of myth and find love that is nothing short of legend.

Featuring new stories by Sara Dobie Bauer, Wendy Sparrow, T. R. North, Aisling Phillips, and Michael Leonberger.

My review:

** I volunteered to read an advance reviewer copy of this book. **

This is truly a romantically themed suspense/thriller collection of urban legends.  Each tale brings a different skew on an urban legend.  Revenge, anguish, grief, loneliness, and fear are just some of the threads used to weave the story.  All have a romantic touch which helps drive the plot and each story has just enough reality to make you catch your breath or jump at a noise while reading.

Below is the rating I give to each story and the average makes up the status of “my rating” for the entire compilation.

  • Not Again ~ Sara Dobie Bauer (3.5)
  • She Wore White ~ Wendy Sparrow (4.5)
  • Vanishing Point ~ T.R. North (4.0)
  • La Vie en Rose ~ Aisling Phillips (4.0)
  • The Hook ~ Michael Leonberger (4.0)
