*** I volunteered to read an advance reviewer copy of this book. ***

This was heartwarming and romantic continuation of the mystic-centric collection of novellas.  Each novella tied back to the prior release (Magic Spark: Enchanted, Book One) but can also be read as stand-alone.  (Which is most intriguing considering “Destiny’s Dark Light” is a pick-up right where it left off in the previous installment.  Kudos to the author for the amazing recap to bring the reader up to speed without missing a single plotline.)  There is a magic; there is romance; there is absolutely everything right in this compilation.

Below is the rating I give to each story and the average makes up the status of “my rating” for the entire compilation.

  • How to Capture Your Match ~ Wendy Sparrow (4.0)
  • Destiny’s Dark Light, Part Two ~ Sara Dobie Bauer (4.5)
  • This Hollow Heart ~ Em Shotwell (4.0)

But when tragedy strikes, it pushes Dax and Ava together, forcing them both to let go of their fears. They soon learn how hard it is to keep pretending and how easy it is to let others in. Especially when those people are family.

Sometimes it isn’t about the ending, but the journey to get there.  And this story encapsulates that thought beautifully.  Although technically a “clean” read, the sexual want, yearning, and power between the two leads nearly incinerates.  If all “bad boys” were this sizzling, I would carry a hose with me everywhere I go.  Emotions ranged from laughter to heartbreak to suspenseful anxiety and everything in-between.  And I enjoyed every moment of the ride.

I love this series.  I do not believe I can begin to quantify exactly how much I love it.  Absolutely more than chocolate.  And caramel.  (All that buttery, creamy goodness.)  Perhaps even more than Swedish Fish.  (Okay, let’s not go completely crazy.)  Which is certainly high praise.  I geek out on most things mythology related and this twist on Gods and immortality with the addition of archangels and demons kept me enthralled with every page I read.  The larger than life and panty-evaporating Guardians certainly increase blood flow and elevate the body temperature.  I would give most anything to step into this realm full-time.  And the only reason this story did not rate a full “Knappogue Castle” on my scale was due to the fact that a few surprises and reveals were figured out by me.  A fabulous read nevertheless.

Breaking Fate, by Georgia Lyn Hunter

Breaking Fate (Fallen Guardians, #2)

An immortal without a soul is bad enough. But when his only tether to remaining honorable is his addiction to bone-crushing pain, it makes Blaéz a dangerously loose cannon.

A Guardian sworn to protect mortals from supernatural evil, Blaéz straddles the edge of darkness as his needs grow. She belongs to him. But she’s human. Forbidden. And bringing her into his life may just destroy them both.

Darci Callahan has given up on love.
When a lethally handsome stranger suddenly appears late one night, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to the captivating man with the pale, empty eyes—a man who awakens in her a desire she never believed possible. Except Blaéz brings more than unexpected passion to her life, he brings danger.

In this treacherous new world of gods and demons, Darci soon discovers a heart-shattering truth and the twisted games the gods play. Caught in the crosshairs, she’s forced to accept that, sometimes, no matter how much you love someone, you have to love them enough to let them go…

Blaéz had my heart in “Absolute Surrender” Book 1 of this Fallen Guardians series and his hold on me tightened as I read his tale.  (Apparently as I age I find I am becoming more enraptured with tortured souls.  Who knew?  LOL)  His angst and issues are fully highlighted and detailed and I loved every moment of the backstory.  The mythology aspect of gods that is woven throughout the read and the inclusion of arch-angels is just heavenly.  What a fascinating follow-up!

Ravenous (Triskaidekaphilia, #2)

“Forever Dead” is included in the Ravenous, Triskaidekaphila – Book Two compilation.

My review:

Vampire falls for vampire hunter is not a groundbreaking idea but this story certainly had me entertained from the opening line to the finish.  I enjoyed the suspense, the romance, the longing, and the depth of characters to give this a polished finish worthy of standing the test of time.
