Love, Passion and Power: Part 2, by Whitley Cox

Love, Passion and Power: Part 2 (The Dark and Damaged Hearts #2)

The moment Kendra Black gave into temptation and took Justin Williams to bed she knew there was no turning back. There was something in him that she needed, that she longed for —safety, he made her feel safe, he made her feel cherished, he made her feel like for once she finally had a shot at love and a happily ever after. A damaged heart —so much like her own, she was drawn to him like a moth to a flame, an attraction so strong she would risk burning her wings just to be near him.

Now they are preparing to move in together and start their life. She’s eager to play sidekick to her superhero, to embark on new adventures both in and out of the bedroom. Kendra’s opened her heart, but trust doesn’t come easy, and love takes two hearts to make it work. Can Justin find a way to win over the love of his life, before her old demons come creeping back and cause Kendra to cut and run?

What a powerfully emotional “Kendra and Justin” focus. The insecurities were more prevalent, the personal speeches more profound, and the sex was unbelievingly erotically charged. I fully enjoyed seeing how two strong and independent people stayed true to themselves as well as to each other even through the many obstacles placed before them. “Dark and Damaged” has never been so enticing.

What a tale!  An unusual journey of self-acceptance through all the trials and tribulations that life has thrown at “Kendra”.  At times I envied her, respected her, even wanted to be her.  Then there were the times I thought she was being stubborn, whiny, and ungrateful.  Yet through it all she remained true to herself.  “Justin” is one hot alpha that has a few quirks (that I hope get explored) and his workaholic and demanding schedule dominate his life – as it would for any typical millionaire.  And yet the two could not be better matched to complement each other.  I cannot wait to see where the story goes!

Even days after having read it, I am unable to fully structure words into coherent sentences, that is how good this book is.  Erotic?  Oh yeah.  Tantalizing?  Most assuredly.  Did I want to crawl inside the pages and join the action?  Absolutely.  What a wickedly fun and mature spin not only on the older woman, younger man relationship but toward a ménage as well.  And the fact that I have no idea what happened to my undergarments while reading should impress upon the steam level.  (Panty evaporation is real.)  I know I will return to these characters again and again.

My review:

Wow.  I mean…Wow!  This book is a compilation of three stories with a common thread of the female leads being best friends and in the prologue they challenge each other to a bet to see if they are first in succeeding to make their fantasizes come true.  The individual stories are the stories as to whether or not they each succeed.  Wonderful tales and “Lydia’s” installment is my favorite.  All are steamy with alpha males.  This is dessert as dinner indulgent.  And I enjoyed every tasty bite.

** ARC received by author in exchange for an honest review. **

Where to start?  This book was bittersweet to read knowing it is the final release in “The Landscaper Series” and having invested personal feelings into these characters throughout the installments, I found it rather hard to say goodbye.  My emotions ran the gamut from heartbreaking fear to utter joy; in fact, I even laughed more times than I recall doing so in prior releases.  Kudos to the author in the foresight to provide an actual story for this series instead of just writing a bunch of sex scenes and cataloguing it as a novella.  Although this may be erotica, it was the narrative of the three that kept me returning to see what happens next.  (And panty melting Eric Dawson.  I had to re-visit him.)  It is one thing to crush on a fictional character, yet quite eye-opening to realize one has fallen completely for a fictional, and married, man.  Tumultuous at times but always sensual.  The conclusion was the only viable ending and it was a stunner!
